▷ what activity or interest does your character pursue simply for pleasure?
alice is part of a theater troupe in denver that put on shows a few times a year. while she's not the next meryl streep by any means, she's a decent actress and can carry a good tune. her main strength is that her voice is loud and clear and she has good articulation, which means she's a good candidate for stage acting and usually snags herself one of the leading or main roles in their productions. she grew up wanting to act for a living but, like thousands of other kids with that dream, quickly realize the responsibility of adulthood would make it impossible, so having this hobby as her outlet is her second best. she also snowboards in season and attends two dance classes a week, hip hop on tuesdays and aerial on saturdays. boredom is her worst enemy so she likes to fill her schedule up pretty tightly with the things she loves to do.

▷ how enthusiastically does your character follow their religion?
alice was raised in a catholic family where religion underpinned some of her best memories so she feels loyal to the church even if she has a lot of doubts about the validity of its teachings. she attends sunday morning services with her siblings and grandparents 2-3 times a month and gets actively involved in the community by doing things like contributing her badly made food to share with the congregation afterwards and dressing up as an angel in the reenactments of the christmas story. she will openly talk about her church going but she won't forwardly talk about her beliefs in god, though she'll join in conversations if others initiate it, and it often surprises people who don't know alice intimately to find out that she's religious. to say her lifestyle is hypocritical of the catholic church's teachings would probably be an understatement and that's something she's always hyper aware of.

▷ does your character want to get married and have children?
honestly, not particularly. alice has a very cynical view of parenthood and doesn't believe she'd make a good mother, though she's also aware of the fact that she's only 23 and this opinion will likely change as her biological clock starts ticking. she prioritizes finding an ideal partner for herself and that doesn't necessarily coincide with an ideal father. she would only ever consider children if the person she ends up with was reliable and trustworthy beyond all doubt, because she doesn't want to repeat the broken home situation she grew up in herself. simultaneously, picking a partner for his fathering abilities is really low down on her priority list so if she ends up with a guy who makes her happy but who she suspects would make a crappy father figure, she'd rule it out without any upset. in terms of marriage, it might be something she'd consider in her late thirties but she doesn't see it as a desirable or sensible move for her to make while she's young. secretly she's terrified of committing herself to someone in that way only for them to turn around and leave, but she doesn't really recognize that in herself yet.

▷ what is your character drawn to?
she's drawn to people first and foremost, and moreso people who can engage her in some way or provide her with something useful. alice is extroverted and sociable and thrives off the energy of others, which often makes her seem like she has many different personalities because she will actively try and recreate the energy people give her and respond in the same way. ultimately she finds it easier to do this when the people she's talking to are blunt, honest and erring on the side of brash, because that tends to be the mode she defaults to most often. someone who can call her on the many mistakes she makes is also usually a good reason for alice to feel drawn to them.

▷ how much debt does your character have over their head?
alice is currently in a pretty significant amount of debt, a total of about $30k through a combination of medical expenses, credit cards she was reckless with and that went to collections, and her car loan. she's managing it by paying it off monthly but it's a pretty big suck on her income and not really something she feels comfortable discussing.

▷ has your character ever cheated on a significant other or have they ever been cheated on?
alice has never had a serious relationship where she's stayed faithful, this is largely because she views becoming reliant on other people for happiness as a serious danger zone and will self-sabotage when she feels herself relaxing into that territory. there's also a part of her who expects to get cheated on and she feels an impulse to do it first so she stays a step ahead of her partner. she has been cheated on in the past too, but not to the same extent. she often doesn't confess to her cheating but lets it lie in her arsenal so she can pull it out should it happen to her first.

▷ what is your character's relationship like with their parents?
alice's relationship with her mother is extremely complex and largely unhealthy. they are a toxic influence in each other's lives because of the huge amount of competition that exists between them, and this is evident to anyone who spends time in the same room as them. bickering and subtle jabs forms the basics of how they communicate and at this stage there's really no one worse offender, the only time it tends to curb is when alice is around her grandparents because she's aware of how much they hate seeing them argue. nevertheless alice is forthcoming with the fact that she loves her mom even through all the difficulties they've faced in their relationship, she's affectionate with her during the occasional moments of peace and it's uncomfortable for her to hear others insults her even if she does it plenty herself.
